Fighting for accessible, well-funded public green spaces that serve residents first.
Louis Armstrong Park
What we do
-
WE CHAMPION
the importance of adequately-financed parks as a key factor in our quality of life.
-
WE ADVOCATE
often with partners, for open green space dedicated to recreation and passive enjoyment, focusing first on the needs of residents over visitors.
-
WE URGE
the City administration and elected officials to implement national best practices to improve neighborhood and regional parks, recreation facilities, and programs, such as city-wide parks master planning and assessment, guided by the needs and aspirations of our citizens.
-
Advocating for robust and equitable PUBLIC funding for ALL parks.
Opposing the commercialization of public green spaces and ensuring no loss of public green space.
Urging elected officials and park managers to implement national best practices for park facilities improvement and recreation program management.
Monitoring proposed changes to the City Zoning Ordinance.
-
Collaborating with local organizations which align with Parks For All’s effort to foster broad civic engagement in shaping public policies related to open space and recreation.
Engaging citizens who can help us be good civic “watchdogs” and give us information that we can act upon if there is a threat — such as encroachment or neglect — to a city-owned green space.
-
Continuous communication with civic leaders and park managers to ensure that a city-wide Parks and Recreation Master Plan is thoughtfully developed for the City of New Orleans.
Calls to Action for people and organizations signed up on our website to let them know when our civic leaders need to hear from us about issues concerning green space.
Parks For All seeks to represent a broad constituency of our community with shared goals to improve our parks through:
Why we do it
-
Lack of Coordination
New Orleans green spaces are managed by 16 different entities. We need to consider New Orleans as a whole and change our balkanized delivery system.
-
Inequitable Distribution
The distribution of parks and the resources for their maintenance are not spread fairly across the city.
-
Over Commercialization
Parks For All is committed to no loss of green space and limiting commercial development of our precious public parks. We should not prioritize tourists over citizens.
…and because parks are IMPORTANT!
New Orleans Parks & Green spaces
Pontchartrain Park McBurnett Knox Playground
This directory pulls together every park, playground, greenway, blueway, and recreation center included in the Big Green Easy — New Orleans' first citywide parks and recreation vision plan. Color coding reflects each site's condition rating from 1 to 3, and sites are grouped by investment phase, giving residents and advocates a clearer picture of where the city's green spaces stand today.
